DIY Skincare
Linda Shanahan

Have you ever wished that you knew how to make high quality creams and lotions instead of paying top dollar for products that have unnatural ingredients?  Join Linda Shanahan at the Bluestem Botanical farm for a day of exploration of herbs that can support our largest organ!

Starting with a talk on the “microbiome” of our skin and how to best support it with daily practices, Linda will guide you in harvesting herbs, drying herbs, infusing them into oil, and finally how to make luxury facial cream at home with easy to grow, garden-based ingredients.  Each participant will go home with a pot of the cream made in class, valued at $25.

Linda Shanahan is an herbalist with a foundation of knowledge that sprouted in the forests of Oregon over 20 years ago. After studying with amazing teachers in the Pacific Northwest and later in the Northeast over the next decade, she supported her herbal way of life by working as a nurse in critical care, hospice and community health. Since 2008, Linda has operated Bluestem Botanicals, a small certified organic herb farm in Doylestown, Pennsylvania, with her husband Eric VanderHyde. It is here that she feels all of her worlds come together where she grows plants, makes herbal extracts, sees clients and teaches classes in apothecary building and herbal community health.

The mission of Bluestem Botanicals is to connect people to plants for food, for medicine and for a more resilient collective future for all beings. Linda and Eric work every day to make sure that this mission remains front and center, guiding everything that they do.

Testimonials from our last class!

“Bluestem Botanicals is an herbal heaven in Bucks County!  Linda and Eric are soulful stewards of the herbs, and they are generous in sharing their knowledge about all the holistic qualities of herbs and the process to distill them!  I felt enriched and energized after the tour!!”  — Berit, Doylestown

“This was such a beautiful day out in the fields of Bluestem Botanicals.  I learned a great deal about the individual plant qualities and the process of making hydrosols. It was a great experience and so close to Doylestown.  If you are interested in the unique qualities of plants or herbs, I highly recommend this hands-on event!” – Maureen P.

“The Aromatic Garden Tour was wonderful and informative.  Linda and Eric did a great job guiding us through the process of making hydrosol and essential oil, from harvesting to distilling to curing and bottling.  We harvested several baskets of lavender.  They explained everything in ways we could all understand and offered us a bottle of the finished product.  Linda made a great tonic for us to enjoy during the power point presentation.  My favorite part was walking through their fields and seeing each type of herb, and smelling/tasting their leaves.” – Kathy Q.
