November 8-16, 2024
Join me on a magical adventure in Guatemala, an incredibly beautiful and diverse country of ancient Mayan mysteries and culture.
This journey for the mind, body and spirit will allow you to explore natural wonders, rain forests and jungles filled with indigenous wildlife and striking birdlife. Explore the many pyramids and temples of the impressive ancient site of Tikal, once capital of the Mayan empire. Spend time with a local shaman for ceremony. There will be time to wander the cobblestone streets of colonial Antigua, one of the oldest and most beautiful cities in the Americas. Marvel at the volcanoes, which surround the azure waters of Lake Atitlan, considered one of the most beautiful lakes in the world.
Several small native villages surround the lake and we will visit some of them to learn about their culture and spiritual beliefs. Meet the local deity “Maximon” who likes to smoke and drink….more to this story! No visit to Guatemala would be complete without some shopping time at the famous market at Chicastenango, a perfect ending to a truly remarkable journey through Guatemala.
November is a magical time of year to visit Guatemala. Marking the end of the rainy season, the weather is warm and dry, the countryside is lush with wildflowers carpeting the hills, and there are fewer tourists than during the high season. The temperature is around 80 degrees, and less humid than other times of the year.
In Guatemala, the coffee is fantastic, some say the BEST they have ever had anywhere. Music fills the streets. The song Luna de Xelaju is embedded in the Guatemalan’s heart + soul. Listen to it performed, with Gaby Moreno and Oscar Isaac on the Jimmy Fallon show https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=61GP8qOsML8 Just like this gorgeous music, the Guatemalans are a warm welcoming people…it’s a place that captures your heart. I hope you can join me! It’s a 5 hr flight and just 1 hour behind us.
