Join herb farmers, Linda Shanahan and Eric VanderHyde, for an exclusive private day tour filled with the sights, sounds, and scents of plants.  Linda and Eric have been growing commercially since 2008 and started distilling in 2018 as a way to create luscious aromatic waters called Hydrosols and the Essential Oils of their harvested plants. 

The aromatic journey from herbalists to growers to distillers has taught Linda and Eric so much about how seemingly different skill sets can come together to create a beautiful way of life.

In this class, Linda and Eric will share their story, explain the basics of distillation for hydrosols and essential oils, and lead the group to harvest and pack the still.  The slow, meditative process of distillation will be accompanied by a plant walk led by Linda and an aromatic herbal beverage crafted by Eric.  

Linda Shanahan is an herbalist with a foundation of knowledge that sprouted in the forests of Oregon over twenty years ago. After studying with amazing teachers in the Pacific Northwest and later in the Northeast over the next decade, she supported her herbal way of life by working as a nurse in critical care, hospice and community health. Since 2008 she has operated Bluestem Botanicals, a small certified organic herb farm in Doylestown, Pennsylvania, with her husband Eric VanderHyde. It is here that she feels all of her worlds come together where she grows plants, makes herbal extracts, sees clients and teaches classes in apothecary building and herbal community health.

The mission of Bluestem Botanicals is to connect people to plants for food, for medicine and for a more resilient collective future for all beings. Linda and Eric work every day to make sure that this mission remains front and center, guiding everything that they do.
